Here we go.
Went for our test sail and all went well. Well most things did. Above decks was fine, no problems with actually sailing the boat. It
sailed very well. We were lucky with the weather. Force 2/3 with long shallow swells and a cloudless night so we just had a reefed
main and the Genoa up. Below decks wasn't quite so good. The galley is missing a sink at the moment so there is no where to rest
item when not using them without them sliding of the surface onto the floor. Also we have only one gimbled cooking stove but we have
two pots so when one pot is full of hot food and we put it down (into the non existing sink) we will loose it's contents. Remember
on a yacht we are sailing at an angle. So it was hard to make the dinner of tinned beans, lentils and onion and tomato. I did it
though and it was OK. Neither of us had a great appetite at that point but I ate mine and felt better much better for doing so.
Since there isn't much storage space down below there is a lot of stuff not tied down. I think this is going to be problematic and
since Jon has not been putting his efforts into the below deck situation for this delivery trip (he was more concerned with getting
the yacht built and sorted for the Route du Rhum) there are going to be a surprise or two down below. I mean things like a box
opening and loosing its contents - nothing serious, just inconvenient. I am sure that it can all be sorted once we are on our way
and Jon gets his sea legs back so he can stay below for more than 2 minutes without wanting to be sick.
Meanwhile it is Wednesday morning. We are in the house and having our muesli, typing away on our respective computers ready to go to
the yacht and set sail for St Helena. It has been a long time coming but it is now here.
So let's go.
